When you think of recovery and justice, what do you see?

An estimated 50 million people are living in exploitation globally.

Of trafficking victims detected globally, 38% are children and 54% are women and girls.

Criminals make an estimated $236 billion in annual profits from forced labour.

Behind every statistic is a person whose freedom has been stolen. To understand the true impact of exploitation, we must see it through their eyes.

Freedom from human trafficking is only the beginning of a survivor’s journey. Recovery is rarely linear. It takes consistent, specialist support and trusted relationships that help survivors regain control, rebuild their lives and pursue justice. Yet too many people are left to navigate this journey without the support they need.

In Bangladesh, we work alongside an inspiring group of survivors, each who have experienced the horrors of trafficking, but that are choosing to use their own experience to empower and support the lives of other victims. They are now becoming leaders in the anti-trafficking fight. We call them Champion Survivors.

We join forces with survivors, governments, police, prosecutors and global partners to ensure survivors are heard, cared for and receive the justice they deserve.

When recovery is just the beginning

For many survivors of human trafficking, freedom from a life of exploitation and returning home to family isn’t the happy ending we imagine it to be – it is often only the beginning.

Many return home to blame, stigma and rejection, carrying an identity they never chose. They can lose their dignity, their voice, their confidence and even their hope for the future.

Irin is our colleague, a Senior Clinical Psychologist at Justice & Care Bangladesh. She supports hundreds of victims with their recovery every year in the country:

‘Over time, survivors begin to free themselves from the fear of judgement. They rediscover their voice and rebuild their identity, their dreams and their confidence. They become leaders, role models and symbols of transformation, changing not only their own lives but the lives of others still trapped in silence. Those who have lived through the darkness are now walking ahead, showing others the way towards freedom.’

We are proud to work alongside champions – who are supporting others on their recovery journey’s through peer mentoring, leading family counselling sessions and raising awareness about human trafficking in their communities, among other things. Last year, were employed 20 champions as Aftercare Case Facilitators (ACF’s) who work alongside our mission to join forces to end exploitation.

Through their eyes we see freedom is the starting line. It takes specialized care, courage and strength to rebuild. Your partnership can ensure that more survivors move beyond exploitation, reclaim their future and lead others towards lasting freedom.

Recognising the importance of lived experience, we work alongside survivors to who play a vital role in supporting their peers and shaping programme development to strengthen the quality of survivor care.

At Justice & Care, we empower individuals, families and communities impacted by modern slavery to live in freedom, we pursue those responsible for trafficking and create change at scale.
